Zaun becomes seventh Horned Frog to fire a 600
EL PASO, Texas – Katie Zaun etched her name in the history books with a 600 in air rifle, highlighting No. 4 TCU's 4,717-4,672 win at UTEP. She is the second shooter in the NCAA to fire a 600 this season. The perfect mark is the ninth in program history.
TCU fired a 2,344 in smallbore and a 2,373 in air rifle, the top marks in both disciplines. UTEP turned in a 2,306 in smallbore and a 2,366 in air rifle.
The Horned Frogs turned in five of the top nine aggregate marks in the match, including the top three. Zaun paced all shooters with an aggregate of 1,187. She was followed by Mikole Hogan (1,182) and Christina Hillinger (1,175). Anne White (1,163) finished seven and Marissa Fedora (1,159) ninth.
TCU shot the top four marks in smallbore led by Hogan's 588. Zaun fired a 587 to finish second. A pair of freshmen, Hillinger and Ziva Swick, set career highs, shooting a 585 and a 584, respectively. White finished seventh with a 577 followed by Fedora with a 575.
Zaun's 600 highlighted the air rifle discipline. She turned in 52 center shots. Hogan fired a 594 followed by Hillinger's 590 and Rylie Passmore's 589. White shot a 586 and Fedora a 584.
UTEP was paced by Kameron Wells who finished fourth among shooters. She led the Miners with a 580 in smallbore. Carlee Valenta had the Miners' top air rifle mark of 594.
TCU opens its home schedule on Nov. 2 when it plays host to Nebraska.
