TCU quarterback and captain is fourth in the nation in passing yards
FORT WORTH -- TCU's Josh Hoover has been named to the midseason watch list for the Davey O'Brien Award, presented to the nation's top quarterback.
The award is named after former TCU standout Davey O'Brien, who won the 1938 Heisman Trophy en route to leading the Horned Frogs to their second national championship in four seasons. TCU's Max Duggan was the 2022 recipient, becoming the first Horned Frog to win the award.
Hoover ranks fourth in the nation in passing yards (2,270) while placing third with 34 completions of at least 20 yards. He is fifth in completions per game (26.3) and tied for 10th with 16 touchdown passes. His 66.4 completion percentage is chasing the school record of 67.3 by Kenny Hill in 2017. Hoover is on pace for 4,216 yards passing which would shatter TCU's season record of 3,901 by Trevone Boykin when he finished fourth in 2014 Heisman Trophy voting.
A sophomore from Heath, Texas, Hoover had a nation's-best streak of nine consecutive games with at least 20 completions and two touchdown passes snapped last week in the win at Utah. It was the longest by a Big 12 quarterback since Oklahoma State's Brandon Weeden from 2010-11.
