Horned Frogs garnered 11 first place votes
FORT WORTH – In a vote of league coaches, the TCU baseball team was picked to finish first in the 13-team league, garnering 11-of-13 first place votes for a total of 143 points. It's the fourth time since joining the league that TCU has been picked to win (2015, 2016 and 2017). The Horned Frogs have been picked to finish fourth or higher every year since joining the league.
Texas, picked to finish second, earned two first place votes for 131 points. Oklahoma State with 119 points was picked third followed by Texas Tech (108), Kansas State (98), Oklahoma (85), West Virginia (85), Kansas (67), Houston (56), UCF (45), Baylor (36), BYU (21) and Cincinnati (21).
TCU has won a league title in each of the last three seasons. It's the second time since joining the conference that TCU has put together a streak of at least three years. The Frogs won four straight titles from 2014-17. The three straight years are tied for the third longest streak in Big 12 history.
With four regular season crowns and four tournament trophies, TCU's eight Big 12 championships are the most of any program in the league since the Frogs joined in 2013.
Even more impressive, the Frogs, with four titles since 2015, now have the second-most regular season trophies of any Big 12 program. The eight total championships are the second most in league history.
TCU, which has been ranked No. 5 in the Perfect Game and D1Baseball preseason polls, opens spring practice on Jan. 26. The season-opener against Florida Gulf Coast is set for Friday, Feb. 16. First pitch for the 2024 campaign is set for 6:30 p.m.
