
TCU Falls in Five to Kansas State

MANHATTAN, Kan. – The Horned Frogs fell in five sets to Kansas State on Friday night in Morgan Family Arena.
Melanie Parra became the fourth player in program history and the first TCU player since 2000 to have 20+ kills and 20+ digs in a single match with a team-leading 22 kills and 21 digs.
The Frogs also posted a season-best 20 blocks, the most blocks by any school in the Big 12 this season. The 20 blocks are tied for sixth in program history for the most blocks in a single match.
The Rundown
TCU battled with the Wildcats in the opening set. Tied at 17-all, Kansas State went on a 5-0 scoring run to force a TCU timeout. At 22-17, TCU began to climb back. Brianna Green and Melanie Parra recorded a key block to make it 22-18 and kills from Audrey Nalls and Parra pulled the Frogs within three.
The Frogs finished the set on a 7-0 scoring run as a block by Sarah Sylvester and Nalls at set point clinched the win for the Frogs.
A service ace from Parra gave the Frogs an early 7-2 lead in the second set. The Wildcats began to climb back and took a 13-12 lead, but the Frogs responded with a 5-0 run of their own, highlighted by back-to-back kills from Parra.
Nalls landed two of her season-best 17 kills to put TCU up 20-15 in the second set, but Kansas State outscored the Frogs 10-2 to win the set and tie the match.
Despite falling in the third set as well, the Frogs rallied in the fourth. A kill from Julia Adams gave TCU its first lead of the set and started a 5-0 scoring run, putting TCU up 12-7. The remainder of the fourth set was a back-and-forth battle until the end. Tied 25-all, Nalls recorded back-to-back kills to win the set for TCU, 27-25.
The Frogs took an early lead in the fifth set and led by as many as three points on three separate occasions. Parra landed one of her four kills in the set to give TCU a 9-6 lead. With TCU up 13-10, Kansas State scored five straight points to win the match.
