Horned frogs dominate 12-6 over defending national champions
TCU takes down the No. 1 and defending National Champion SMU in season opener for the first time in program history.
The last time the Horned Frogs beat a top ranked team was in the 2021-22 season when the Horned Frogs took down Oklahoma State at home 16-4 on Feb. 26.
FENCES
The Horned Frogs started off the meet with the fences competition. Only one point was secured for TCU by freshman, Franki Guidi, who scored a 84 to best Taylor Madden's 82 on Fats. Ashleigh Scully and SMU's Hannah Hoch tied their point with a score of 83.
REINING
TCU's reining team topped the Mustangs securing four of the five points, tying the last point up for grabs. The returners continue their winning ways to kick off the 2023-24 season. Giorgia Medows marked the highest score of the event and earned most outstanding performer with a 76 on Snoop Dog against Maria Richards' 74. Mattie Dukes followed with a score of 75 on Bob to win her point against Shelby Clausen. Jessica McAllister scored the highest point differential against Chalyce Head scoring six points higher than her on Remi with a 72-66.
HORSEMANSHIP
The horsemanship team continued the momentum in the second half by bringing in four of the five points in the event. With huge scores, Mattie Dukes, Payton Boutelle, Jessica McAllister, and Giorigia Medows all secured their points in the event. Mattie Dukes stood out among the competition scoring an 81 on Cupid, the highest of the event. The score of 81 marked a new career best and made her the MOP for the event. Medows and Boutelle followed close behind Dukes, marking their own new career high scores with a 80.5 and 79.5 respectively.
FLAT
The flat team finished off the day to secure a TCU win. Ella Bostwick made her collegiate flat debut for the Horned Frogs with a score of 74 to win her point against Katy Merchant on Mac. Laurel Smith stood out in the flat competition scoring a 80 to win her point and securing her first MOP honor of the season. Lilly Goldstein closed out the meet with a point for the Frogs scoring a 78 on Wiz to beat Hensley Humphries 70.
UP NEXT
The Horned Frogs travel to Stillwater, Okla. where they will face No. 5 Oklahoma State. The meet will take place on October 5 at 1 p.m.
