COLLEGE STATION, Texas – TCU handed Texas A&M its first loss of the season with a 3-1 win over the Aggies on Saturday night at Reed Arena.
Brianna Green posted a career-best 12 blocks against Texas A&M and became just the eighth player in program history to have 12+ blocks in a single game.
Riley Buckley (37 assists, 10 digs), Jalyn Gibson (13 kills, 11 digs) and Melanie Parra (16 kills, 11 digs) all tallied double-doubles in the win, the first time this season that three TCU players had double-doubles in a single game.
The Rundown
TCU commanded the first set and outside of the game being tied 7-7, the Horned Frogs led the entirety of the frame. Melanie Parra's first of 16 kills on the night put TCU up 1-0 to start the game and her second kill put the Frogs up 5-3.
Jalyn Gibson made an immediate impact in the contest and delivered a killer blow to put the Frogs up 15-12. TCU continued to build on its lead and a perfectly executed dump from Riley Buckley gave the Frogs their first set point of the match. A kill from Audrey Nalls clinched the set win for TCU.
TCU hit a match-best .302 and Green recorded four of her 12 blocks in the first frame.
The Frogs controlled the second set from the get-go thanks to a beauty of a block from Buckley and Sarah Sylvester to give TCU a 4-2 lead. A Parra kill gave TCU a three-point lead just before the media timeout and the Frogs carried the momentum for the rest of the set.
Up 15-14, TCU went on a 10-3 scoring run to close the second set, highlighted by two kills from Nalls and a Cecily Bramschreiber ace. The Frogs held Texas A&M to a -.088 hitting percentage in the second set.
The Aggies jumped out big in the third set and built a six-point lead early, but the Frogs pulled themselves within one from a kill by Nalls. An attack error by the Aggies tied the game at 11-all, but Texas A&M began to pull away and eventually forced a fourth set.
Kills from Gibson and Taylor Raiola put TCU up 2-0 to begin the fourth frame and the Frogs wasted no time. TCU led by as many as seven points halfway through the set and a Parra kill squashed the Aggies' attempt at a comeback.
Riley Weigelt tallied back-to-back service aces as the set came to a close, and a Texas A&M attack error solidified the 3-1 win for TCU.
Brianna Green's career-best 12 blocks put her in elite company – one of just eight players in program history to have 12 or more blocks in a game.
