TCU is home and the right spot for the speedy wide receiver
(as told to Lily Margaret Greenway)
I chose TCU because it felt like home. I have a lot of family here. My grandma and aunt are 10 minutes from TCU, so it's nice to go over and share a meal with them. My parents plan on moving down to Fort Worth one day, too. I knew that being in a place surrounded by family and friends would build me up as a person. They put a smile on my face, and always let me know that I'm not alone.
I'm a serious, calm and collected guy, and I feel like I'm easy to be around. I want to be a good person for others to talk to, whether I just listen or I give feedback. I think the best quality in a teammate is someone who can coach you as they play alongside you. I want my teammates to tell me when I'm slacking and when to pick myself up, and I encourage and support them, too. It bonds us and helps us care for each other.
I know a lot about endurance. I used to run, and I want to get back into it, but I'm still one of the fastest guys on the team. It's mostly an advantage, but it also means I can't fall behind in our runs, so it works against me, too! I view running as a skill for me to stay in shape and make a big difference on the field. Last year, I learned about perseverance and level-headedness. I picked up on a lot from the guys ahead of me. Our whole season was crazy, and going to the National Championship just confirmed that TCU was the right spot for me.
Being serious is one of my greatest strengths, but so is being funny. I love to laugh. If I see another person smile, I'm going to smile. If you're happy, I'm happy. I love to joke, and I have a lot of inside jokes with people. There are guys on the team who I can just look at, and we both start laughing. Those relationships matter most to me.
My whole life, I've watched my dad dedicate himself to the job he works. He has moved up from position to position and always provided for our family. He is a big inspiration to me, and I hope to be that kind of provider when I get older. I am studying business at TCU and am working to achieve a degree. Ever since I was a little kid, I've always told my mom I was born to play in the NFL. I want to achieve that goal.
Once I put my uniform on, I get more confident. Off the field, I don't think I'm very confident, but when I play, it's like I have my superpowers. I've played football my whole life. Putting on the pads is nothing new, and it's all I know. But the TCU uniform is a big deal. Every Saturday when we run through that tunnel, there is so much smoke I can't even see anything. But when I get out onto the field, I realize… this is serious. This is real. I gotta get out there and do it. It's time to put on a show.
