Freshman sets a career high with nine strikeouts
FORT WORTH – In front of a record-setting crowd of 8,812, TCU ran its winning streak to 10 games with a 4-1 win over the No. 14 National Seed Indiana State Friday afternoon in Game 1 of the NCAA Fort Worth Super Regional. Kole Klecker tied a career-high with seven innings pitched and set a career-high with nine strikeouts.
The Rundown
Kole Klecker (10-4) was outstanding over the course of seven innings of work. He allowed just three hits and five total base runners in his time on the mound. No runner advanced beyond second base. The freshman finished the game with a career-high nine strikeouts.
The Sycamores best opportunity to get on the board came after a lead-off single followed by a two out walk in the second. Klecker's third strikeout of the game ended the inning without any damage done.
Austin Davis hit a lead-off home run on the first pitch of the third inning. Karson Bowen worked a one-out walk and Cole Fontenelle delivered with a two out, two-run shot to dead center for a 3-0 lead.
The Horned Frogs picked up an all-important insurance run in the ninth. Fontenelle led off the inning with a double. A Tre Richardson sacrifice bunt followed by a Kurtis Byrne sacrifice fly gave TCU a 4-0 lead.
Luke Savage took over on the mound in the eighth. After issuing a lead-off walk, he induced a double play ball and got a flyout to end the eighth. A two out solo home run was the only blemish on the afternoon. His second strikeout of the game locked up his second save of the season.
