Parra competes with the Mexican National Team at the 2023 XXIV Central American and Caribbean Games beginning July 1
FORT WORTH – Already a star on the international stage, TCU volleyball's Melanie Parra earned a spot on the Mexican National Team roster this summer for the 2023 XXIV Central American and Caribbean Games in San Salvador, El Salvador.
The tournament, which runs from July 1-9, will take place at Colegio San Francisco in San Salvador. The Games are returning after a brief five-year hiatus, as the 2020 Central American and Caribbean Games in Panama City, Panama, were canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Parra and the Mexican National Team will face some of the best teams throughout the region. No stranger to the Central American and Caribbean Games, Parra represented Mexico in 2018 as she helped the Mexican National team to a fourth-place finish. She was also a member of the Senior Mexican National Team that competed at the 2018 FIVB World Championship.
Parra's international career began when she earned a spot on the U-18 Mexican National Team at age-13. In 2016, she helped Mexico to a bronze medal at the U18 NORCECA Volleyball Championship in Puerto Rico. She then guided the Mexican National Team to a first-place finish in its pool at the 2017 NORCECA Volleyball Championships.
The 5-11 outside hitter joins the Horned Frogs after three seasons at Texas from 2020-22. Parra helped Texas capture the 2022 NCAA Volleyball Championship after appearing in 21-of-29 Longhorn matches last season. She tallied 192 digs, 93 kills, 68 service aces and 15 blocks in her three-year career in Austin.
