Fomba, Barroso Sa, Macnab, Holmes and Morris Honored by TCU
FORT WORTH – Luc Fomba of men's tennis, Sofia Barroso Sa and Caitlyn Macnab of women's golf and Jaren Holmes and Gracie Morris of track and field have been named TCU Student-Athletes of the Week, presented by Bob's Steak and Chop House.
Fomba, who was named the 2023 Big 12 Championship Most Outstanding Player, led TCU to its third-ever Big 12 Championship tournament title and the first since 2017.
Fomba produced a 3-0 combined record across the Horned Frogs' 4-0 semifinal victory over No. 47 Oklahoma State and 4-1 championship triumph against No. 1 Texas. He earned the match-clincher in both contests. Men's tennis awaits the announcement of the NCAA regionals, on Monday, May 1.
Barroso Sa and Macnab were both named to the All-Big 12 Championship Team after placing tied for 6th and 9th places, respectively. Barroso Sa shot a 1-over 217 over three rounds of play, while carding a team-high 5-birdies in Round 2. This was Barroso Sa's highest finish since the Barbara Nicklaus Cup in October.
Macnab broke the school record for most eagles-made in a career, making her 11th career eagle on No. 3 at the Dallas Athletic Club. Macnab shot a 2-over 218 to earn her second straight All-Big 12 Tournament Team selection. Women's golf awaits the announcement of NCAA Regionals on Wednesday, April 26.
Holmes and Morris both dominated their respective event over the weekend. Holmes won the triple jump, with a personal best of 16.40m. He currently ranks as the No. 7 triple jumper in the country this season. Morris won the 800m and broke her own school record with a time of 2:03.97. She currently ranks as the No. 21 800m runner in the country this season.
Track and field returns to action this Thursday, April 27, as members of the team will head to both the Oliver Jackson Twilight in Abilene, Texas and the Penn Relays in Philadelphia.
