The Rundown
The game was decided in the seventh as Texas Tech took advantage of a one out error and turned it into eight unearned runs and a 19-16 lead. Seven batters reached with two outs as the Red Raiders erased a five run deficit.
TCU had built an 8-0 lead through its first two innings. Cole Fontenelle gave the Horned Frogs a 2-0 lead in the first with his first home run of the game. Six more runs crossed the plate in the second highlighted by a Luke Boyers two-run single and back-to-back homers from Brayden Taylor and Fontenelle.
Texas Tech put up crooked numbers in the second and third, but TCU always had an answer. The Frogs put up single runs in the third through sixth inning to take a 12-6 lead.
A four run sixth for Texas Tech was answered by a four run top of the seventh by TCU. Tre Richardson doubled home the first run of the inning followed by a two-run single from Taylor. Fontenelle's triple gave the Frogs a 16-11 lead, but it wouldn't hold as Texas Tech sent 13 men to the plate in the bottom of the inning.
Ryan Vanderhei started for TCU and allowed five runs on seven hits in two innings. Ben Abeldt (1-2) took the loss after allowing all nine seventh inning runs, only one of which was earned.
