
Florida State Takes Series Opener

FORT WORTH – No. 8 TCU dropped the series opener to Florida State by a 10-1 score Friday night at Lupton Stadium. Austin Davis drove in the lone run of the night for TCU, stretching his RBI streak to five games.
The Rundown
Ryan Vanderhei (0-1) and Florida State's Jackson Baumeister were locked in a pitcher's duel for the first five innings. Vanderhei racked up eight strikeouts through five while Baumeister retired 15 of 16 batters faced.
A lead-off double in the sixth for Florida State would prove costly for the Horned Frogs. The Seminoles struck for a trio of runs on three hits and one error.
TCU threatened with two on and two out in the sixth after an Austin Davis double and a walk to Luke Boyers, but the Seminoles wiggled out the jam with a strikeout.
In the eighth, the Seminoles punched across a pair of runs on three hits to extend the lead to 5-0. The Frogs lone tally came in the bottom of the frame on a Davis groundout.
The Seminoles put the game out of reach with a five spot in the ninth.
Vanderhei took the loss after allowing three runs (two earned) on four hits and walking one over 5 2/3 innings.

9 – Vanderhei matched his career high with nine strikeouts.
