
TCU Falls in Second Round to No. 9 Arkansas

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Competing for its first Sweet 16 appearance in program history, TCU fell to third-seeded and No. 9 Arkansas, 3-1, in the second round of the NCAA Tournament on Saturday night in Barnhill Arena.
Audrey Nalls led TCU with 17 kills and added 10 digs for her 12th double-double of the season. Jalyn Gibson (12 kills, 10 digs), Lily Nicholson (43 assists, 13 digs) and Melanie Parra (14 kills, 12 digs) tallied double-doubles as well.
It was the first time in program history that TCU has advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament in back-to-back seasons.
The Rundown
TCU's offense started hot in the first set and two early kills from Melanie Parra gave TCU a 3-1 lead. The Frogs built on their lead and Audrey Nalls' second kill of the night put TCU up 9-5. Leading 10-8, the Frogs went on a 4-0 scoring run, highlighted by back-to-back kills from Nalls, to give TCU its biggest lead of the first set and force an Arkansas timeout at 14-8.
Arkansas quickly responded out of the timeout with a 6-0 run to tie the set at 14-all. The Razorbacks took their first lead of the set at 15-14 and finished the set on an 10-4 scoring run to win the set, 25-18.
Sarah Sylvester tallied three blocks to open the second set for the Frogs and put them up 4-1 early. TCU led the entirety of the second set until the Razorbacks came back and tied it at 13-all, but the Frogs responded strong and took an 18-14 lead from kills by Brianna Green and Nalls.
Arkansas tied the second set at 19-all and both teams exchanged points throughout the remainder of the set. Jalyn Gibson's fifth kill of the set put TCU up 24-23 and her sixth kill tied the set at 25-all, but Arkansas scored the final two points to win 27-25.
Both teams went back-and-forth to start the third set, but TCU jumped out to a three-point lead when a Sylvester kill made it a 10-7 advantage. Arkansas came back and led 19-16 before a kill from Gibson sparked a 3-0 scoring run to tie the set at 19-19. A successful challenge gave TCU a 23-22 lead and a block from Green and Parra gave TCU set point at 24-22. The duo shined again, and another huge block from Green and Parra cemented the set win for the Frogs, 25-23.
The Razorbacks led the majority of the fourth set, but a 5-0 scoring run from the Frogs tied the set at 14-all. TCU hung tough despite Arkansas taking the lead once again, and a kill from Nalls made it a 18-16 contest before Arkansas outscored the Frogs 7-4 to win the fourth and final set, 25-20.
