Texas 29 - TCU 26
TCU head coach Sonny Dykes
On the fight to come back from a deficit:
"I'm proud of our guys for fighting back. Our team showed a ton of character and mental toughness and fortitude and fight. I asked them at halftime to play as hard as they could in the second half and not worry about the score, to just go out and play with an incredible effort and they did that and got themselves back in the game. We were right there and had a chance."
On Savion Williams:
"Number one, he played incredibly hard. He got banged up a couple times and kept coming back in. He played with a ton of toughness. He just played like he was capable of playing and with a ton of confidence. Josh (Hoover) got on the same page with him and started to trust him."
"The big difference is we were able to run the ball in the second half. We wasted some drives early in the game. We did what we've done at times this year is commit a penalty or give up a sack or did something where we can't get out of our own way. In the second half, guys started to make plays. We settled in. We started to run the ball. I thought our offensive line really played well in the second half, not only in the run game but gave our quarterback time to throw the football. It gave us an opportunity to get back in the game. I thought we played well enough to win. That's the first game this year that we had an opportunity to win the game down the stretch and we couldn't do it. It's a good football team that we played against. Give Texas credit. They did what they had to do to get the win. It shows a lot about who they are, a very talented team. They play smart football. They don't turn the ball over and make people beat them."
On having trust in Josh Hoover:
"I think we believe in him. We are fortunate that we have a couple good quarterbacks. Two guys that we believe in. I just feel like Josh did a hell of a job. He had one bad decision at the end of the first half but besides that for a young guy against a good opponent, a lot of really talented players, I thought he played really well."
TCU Safety Abe Camara
On the mood in the locker room is like after a game like this:
"We've still got to keep going. We still have two games left. We need to keep pushing and try to get two more wins and overall, just keep trying to do all that we can for the rest of the season."
On team confidence after facing a top-ranked team like Texas:
"I feel like confidence is always there with this team. We have just got to find a way to put it all together. Going toe-to-toe with a phenomenal team like Texas shows that we can play on par with them."
TCU Wide Receiver Savion Williams
On setting a single-game career record for both catches and yards:
"We started getting the ball to me in the first half which started a spark for me to get going in the first half, and since then it just picked up."
On what the message is for finishing out the season trying to become bowl-eligible:
"Keep fighting. Some people went into the game thinking we weren't going to win, some people went into the game thinking we were going to win. For the next two games, some people are going to have to have a different mindset going into the next two games. This game should set the tone for the rest of the season.
Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian
Opening statement:
"Another way that our guys continue to find ways to win games. I hate to sound like a broken record but the versatility of this team and the heart and the resiliency that this team shows. The ability to make plays at critical moments showed up. Tonight the offense had to possess the ball at the end of the game. Heck of a play by AD (Mitchell) and Quinn (Ewers). A week ago the defense had to make a stop. The idea that we can win either way is impressive."
On wide receiver Jordan Whittington:
"There's so much that he does that a lot of times does not show on the stat sheet. What he does for us blocking, how smart he is in getting people lined up and recognition he provides us. We throw an interception and having the awareness to strip the ball from behind like a defensive player. He has not been 100% healthy, that's why we have not seen him on special teams. But he is valuable to what we do."
On improvements his team needs to make:
"Good teams continue to improve as the season goes on, you never hit a point where you can not improve. I know we are in November but there is a lot of football to be played and we can improve. Where we can improve is that killer instinct. That mental intensity, that focus and tenacity that we played the first two quarters with and come out in the third quarter and finish a team off."
Texas Wide Receiver Xavier Worthy
On the fumble play:
"That was a long play. I saw him running and I went to punch it out and we just ran to grab it."
On his dynamic with Quinn Ewers:
"I feel like we worked and talked about it. Over the summer we worked on it and what we want to do and how we want to do it."
Texas Quarterback Quinn Ewers
On his dynamic with Xavier Worthy:
"From going into the offseason to what we've been doing in practice, the way we go about our business. Trying to connect on certain routes has gotten tremendously better on our part."
Texas Wide Receiver Adonai Mitchell
On his big catch tonight:
"Credits to Quinn for giving me a chance. We worked on that a lot and we took the practice field to the game and things happened."
On his interaction with the student section:
"It's fun. It's really what you play college football for. Traveling to an away game, you know the crowd is not going to love you so you embrace it. It's a lot of people who would kill to be in that position - to be hated like that - so we don't take it lightly."
Texas Offensive Lineman Kelvin Banks Jr.
On this season's team:
"Our mentality is different. We would've definitely ended up losing a game like this last year just because of the roller coaster of emotions. We try not to get too high or too low. We need that even keel and we kept that mindset the whole game."
