
TCU Drops Match to Cincinnati

Parra led TCU with 23 kills in the loss
FORT WORTH – TCU fell in five sets to Cincinnati on Friday night in Ed and Rae Schollmaier Arena.
Melanie Parra led the Horned Frogs with 23 kills while Sarah Sylvester finished with a team-leading nine blocks.
The Rundown
Two kills from Melanie Parra got the Frogs off to a fast start and they led in the early part of the set. Tied at 11-all, a kill from Cincinnati gave the Bearcats a 12-11 lead and maintained their lead through the remainder of the set.
The second set was back-and-forth early on. Tied at 14, TCU went on a 4-0 scoring run, highlighted by back-to-back blocks from Sarah Sylvester, to put the Frogs up 18-14. TCU controlled the remainder of the set and a final kill from Audrey Nalls sealed the set win and evened up the score.
The Frogs got off to a hot start in the third set and a Parra kill put TCU up 17-11, but the Bearcats outscored TCU 13-5 at the end to win the third set.
Despite trailing 2-1, TCU started strong in the fourth set. Kills from Gibson and Parra jumped TCU out to a 2-0 lead. Cincinnati kept the score close until the Frogs went on a 4-0 scoring run to extend their lead to 18-11.
A kill from Nalls forced a Bearcat timeout at 21-13 and TCU never let up. Brianna Green and Parra clinched the set win on a block to tie the match and force a fifth set.
TCU and Cincinnati were even throughout the fifth set, having 13 lead changes and six tied scores. The Frogs led 12-11 before Cincinnati regained the lead. Parra's 23rd kill of the night tied the match up at 14, but the Bearcats scored two final points to win the match.
