Recognized for her contribution in and out of the arena
WACO, Texas – TCU equestrian's Ashleigh Scully has been named the NCEA Standout Student-Athlete of the month for September, the NCEA announced Thursday afternoon. The award recognizes the wholistic contributions of student-athletes to their communities, schools and teams during the year.
"No doubt Ashleigh is an outstanding student-athlete," Director of Equestrian Haley Schoolfield said. "She's also a superior student and a renowned photographer. She's the whole package and we are very proud she's a Horned Frog."
Scully is not only academically accomplished and athletically decorated, she is passionate about conservation and wildlife. She has educated and raised awareness for wildlife conservation over the past several years through her photography and now through the social media platform, Instagram. In early September the Senior had a video of her photos go viral that spiked her following up to 100K followers.
In 2021 Scully earned the Outstanding Young Photographer of the Year Award by the North American Nature Photography Association. Scully has a tremendous body of work in photography, winning the 2017 Wildlife Photographer of the Year for the 11-14 age division.
Scully's photographs have been displayed across the US with pictures hanging from Jackson Hole, Wyo., to the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History in Washington D.C. The Morristown, N.J. native also has pieces displayed internationally in the Natural History Museum in London, England.
Scully is studying English at TCU and hopes to further her career as a photojournalist once she graduates.
