Kwong, Parra and Kellett honored by TCU.
FORT WORTH – Anna Kwong of swim and dive, Melanie Parra of volleyball and Lauren Kellett of soccer have been named TCU Student-Athletes of the Week, presented by SciFit Center.
Anna Kwong took home gold and silver at the FSU Classic last Friday and Saturday. Her first-place finish was achieved in the 3-meter dive where she scored a 297.35, making her the first Frog to earn a Zone cut this season. Kwong's silver achievement was earned in the 1-meter dive, where she scored a 246.30. TCU Swim and Dive is back in action on Friday, Oct. 13 at the home-opener vs. BYU.
Melanie Parra tied her career-best 34 kills to lead the Horned Frogs to a win against Texas Tech this past week, becoming the only player in program history to achieve this stat twice in her career. Parra has led TCU in kills in back-to-back wins against Texas Tech, averaging 6.38 kills per set with 51 total kills, hitting .402. TCU volleyball will get back to work on Friday, Oct. 6 with a matchup vs. Cincinnati in Fort Worth.
Lauren Kellett tallied two shutouts this week against Big 12 opponents, Kansas State and Oklahoma State. Against OSU she collected two saves to secure the Frogs' 1-0 win, including a clutch save in the 82nd minute to preserve her second clean sheet of the week. Kellett is currently standing in third in the Big 12 with six total shutouts on the season. The soccer Frogs will look to increase their win streak to six as they take on Kansas on Thursday, Oct. 5 at the Garvey-Rosenthal.
