Miller leads the way with 24 points and five assists
FORT WORTH - A dominant second half led TCU to a 98-61 exhibition win over Texas Wesleyan Monday night in Schollmaier Arena.
The Horned Frogs never trailed and shot 55.2 percent from the field while forcing 27 turnovers.
Emanuel Miller led TCU with 24 points, on 11-of-12 shooting from the field along with five assists and two steals. Joining Miller in double-figures were Micah Peavy with 13 points and Jameer Nelson Jr. with 12. Nelson also added five assists, five steals and four rebounds.
TCU outrebounded Texas Wesleyan, 42-33, with a balanced effort as six Frogs led the team with four boards each. The Horned Frogs' defense held the Rams to 37.9 percent shooting and just 17.6 percent (3-of-17) from 3-point range.
The game was within eight or fewer points until a Miller layup with 6:01 left in the first half. The Frogs led 44-31 at the break.
TCU opened the second half on a 19-5 run as it made nine of its first 11 shot attempts to take a 63-36 lead with 15:31 to play. Throughout the run were two alleyoop dunks from Nelson to 6-11 center Ernest Udeh Jr. The Kansas transfer finished with eight points, four rebounds, two assists and two blocks.
The largest scoring margin of 42 points came after a free throw by Essam Mostafa to make the score 96-54 with 2:09 to play.
JaKobe Coles finished with eight points, as did newcomers Avery Anderson III and Trevian Tennyson.
All 17 Horned Frogs played, including both freshmen as Jace Posey scored three points and Isaiah Manning finished with two.
The Horned Frogs will open the regular season on Monday 8 p.m. against Southern at Schollmaier Arena. The game will air on Big 12 Now on ESPN+.
