FORT WORTH – Following her second 34-kill match of the season, Melanie Parra has garnered Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week honors.
It's the second time this season and the second time in her career that Parra has earned Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week.
Parra dominated in TCU's two-match series against Texas Tech, guiding the Horned Frogs to a 2-0 weekend. Over two matches, Parra averaged 6.38 kills per set at a .402 clip. She also averaged 7.81 points per set as well.
She became the only player in the NCAA this season to have two matches with 33 or more kills. The Sinaloa, Mexico, native currently ranks third in the NCAA in points per set (5.77) and fifth in kills per set (4.86). Parra leads the Big 12 in both categories and is also second in the conference with 0.53 aces per set.
Thursday's match saw Parra lead TCU with 17 kills hitting .500 over three sets. She also added four aces and eight digs in the Frogs' 3-0 win.
Parra tied her career-high 34 kills against the Red Raiders in Friday's five-set victory. She finished with 34 kills and 14 digs for her sixth double-double of the season. The junior also added four aces and three blocks for a career-best 39.5 points.
She became the only player in TCU history to tally two matches with 34 or more kills in her career. The 34 kills are tied for the second most kills in any match in program history, a mark set by Parra earlier this season with her 34 kills in TCU's 3-1 win over Florida State.
With her 34 kills, Parra has tallied 10+ kills in 10 straight matches. She has led TCU in kills in 13 matches as well. She is also currently the only Big 12 player this season to have two matches with 30 or more kills.
The Texas transfer has started all 15 matches for the Frogs at outside hitter this season. Earlier this year, she broke the four-set school record with her 34 kills against the Seminoles. She has posted 15+ kills in nine of the previous 10 matches with the Frogs going 8-2 over that stretch.
The Frogs ended September going 10-2 and are currently 5-0 at home this season. Entering this week, the Frogs have a 12-match winning streak dating back to Sept. 24, 2022.
TCU (10-5, 3-1 Big 12) hosts Cincinnati (8-5, 1-2 Big 12) for two matches on Oct. 6-7 in Ed and Rae Schollmaier Arena. Both matches begin at 6 p.m. and will be televised on Big 12 Now on ESPN+.
