Jalyn Gibson landed a team-leading 13 kills
FORT WORTH – TCU fell in four sets to No. 14 Kansas at home on Sunday afternoon in Ed and Rae Schollmaier Arena.
Jalyn Gibson led the Horned Frogs with 13 kills and Audrey Nalls posted an 11-kill double-double along with 16 digs in the loss. It's Nalls' eighth double-double in the past nine matches.
The Rundown
TCU started the match strong and jumped out to an 8-3 lead off an Audrey Nalls kill, but Kansas kept it close and won three of next four points, setting the score at 9-6. A Sarah Sylvester kill put TCU up 13-7 and forced the Jayhawks to call their first timeout of the match.
The timeout did nothing to stop the Frog momentum as TCU took a 17-8 lead on back-to-back kills by Jalyn Gibson. Kansas began to climb back and pulled within five points at 21-16, but kills from Brianna Green, Sylvester and Nalls clinched the 25-18 set win for the Frogs.
TCU hit .300 in the first set en route to the seven-point set victory while holding Kansas to just a .129 hitting percentage.
A kill from Green gave TCU an early 2-1 lead in the second set, but the Jayhawks went on a 7-2 scoring run to take a commanding lead. Gibson landed a kill to cut the lead to 9-5, but the Jayhawks maintained control of the set, hitting .577 as a team, to tie the match up 1-1.
A kill from Nalls made it a two-point set early in the third, but Kansas continued to control the set and shot out to a 13-7 lead. Trailing 17-9, Gibson recorded a kill immediately following a TCU timeout, but Kansas would go on to grab back-to-back points and eventually win the set, 25-16.
Down by 11 points in the fourth set, the Frogs began to climb back, and back-to-back kills from Nalls made it a 17-9 contest. The Jayhawks never let up, however, en route to a 25-15 four-set victory.
