Hoover, Martins and Vadovicova honored by TCU.
FORT WORTH - Josh Hoover of football, Destinee Martins of women's tennis and Nina Vadovicova of swimming and diving have been named TCU Student-Athletes of the Week, presented by SciFit Center.
Hoover, a redshirt freshman quarterback from Heath, Texas, was honored this week as the Big 12 Conference Co-Player of the Week as he made his collegiate start debut against BYU last Saturday. He made a strong impression leading the Horned Frogs to a 44-11 win against the Cougars, the largest margin of victory for TCU this season. Completing 37-of-58 passes for 439 yards and four touchdowns, his passing yards marked the 10th-best nationally in a game this season and were the most by a TCU quarterback since Chandler Morris' 461 yards in a 30-28 victory over Baylor in 2021. TCU heads to Manhattan, Kan. to take on Kansas State this Saturday, Oct. 22, at 6 p.m.
Martins, a senior from London, England, dominated this past weekend at the Women's ITA Texas Regional Championships winning her singles match 4-1. She impressively took down No. 1 seed Tanya Sasnouskaya of Texas in Round 16 and No. 5 seed Daria Smetannikov of Texas A&M in the quarterfinals. Martins is the first Horned Frog to advance to the Texas Regional Championships Semi-finals since Sasha Zenovka in 2017. Martins and the Horned Frogs compete in the Peach State for the IFT Macon 80k all week.
Vadovicova, a freshman from Slovakia, stunned BYU last Friday in the breaststroke. She set two new program records in the 100 and 200-yard event, swimming a 1:00.75 in the 100-yard breaststroke and a 2:11.30 in the 200-yard breaststroke. She earned first place in every event she participated in including the 200 and 400-yard medley relays, the 100 and 200-yard breaststrokes, and the 400-yard individual medley. Her outstanding performance earned her two NCAA "B" cuts in both breaststroke events and contributed to the Frogs' first home meet win on the season. TCU travels down to Austin to go up against Texas on Friday, Oct. 20.
