
Six Horned Frogs Earn Big 12 Preseason Recognition

Taylor, Silva earn Big 12 Preseason Player of the Year Honors
FORT WORTH – A league-high six TCU baseball athletes earned Preseason All-Big 12 recognition as voted upon by conference coaches. Brayden Taylor was selected as the Big 12 Preseason Player of the Year while Anthony Silva was selected as the Preseason Freshman of the Year.
Taylor was joined on the Preseason All-Conference team by outfielder Elijah Nunez and pitchers Luke Savage and Garrett Wright. West Virginia transfer Austin Davis was also selected as an outfielder.
A junior, Taylor is TCU's top returning hitter. He hit .314 with 28 extra base hits and drove in 50 runs last season. A two-time all-conference performer, Taylor is a career .319 hitter and has hit 25 career home runs and driven in 103 runs.
Silva is a freshman infielder from San Antonio. He was ranked as the No. 74 overall national prospect by Perfect Game and the No. 14 overall prospect in the state of Texas. Baseball America tabbed him the best high school defensive player in the country. He was invited to participate in the 2022 MLB Draft Combine.
Nunez, a junior outfielder from Arlington, Texas, was an honorable mention all-conference performer in 2022. Nunez had his best offensive season in 2021, hitting .287 with 64 total hits. He set a school record with 58 walks and was one of 22 players nationally to register at least 30 stolen bases, picking up 31 last year.
Savage was a first-team all-conference performer in 2022. He put together a 2.72 ERA in 39 2/3 innings pitched over 25 appearances last season. Savage posted a 1-1 record to go along with two saves.
Wright was an honorable mention All-Big 12 performer as a sophomore. In 20 appearances, Wright posted a 2.89 ERA and struck out 27 in 18 2/3 innings pitched. He ranked second on the team with five saves.
Davis transferred to TCU this past fall after four seasons at West Virginia. In his final campaign with the Mountaineers, he hit .330 with 74 total hits. He totaled 29 stolen bases and drove in 26. In 164 career games at WVU, Davis hit .313.
TCU, ranked as high as No. 14 in the preseason, opens the 2023 season on Feb. 17 in the Higginbotham College Baseball Showdown at Globe Life Field against No. 10 Vanderbilt at 3 p.m.
