
Hemphill, Iqbal Nominated For NCAA Woman of the Year

Duo helped lead respective squads to the postseason
FORT WORTH – Kristen Hemphill of the women's rifle team and Sabrina Iqbal of the women's golf squad are TCU's nomination for the 2022 NCAA Woman of the Year. Both Hemphill and Iqbal were key contributors to their respective team's postseason run.
Hemphill, a 2022 CRCA Scholar All-American, competed in both the smallbore and air rifle finals at the National Championships this past season. She placed fourth and third, respectively. The senior finished in the top 20 in the nation in both disciplines. She placed 15th in individual air rifle averages (594.0), 18th in smallbore average (585.7) and 14th in aggregate average (1,179.8). She finishes her career as a 12 time All-American.
Iqbal, a member of the 2022 WGCA All-America Scholar Team, finished the season with a career-low 71.8 stroke average. The senior from San Jose, Calif., set a TCU record with a 8-under 63 in the final round to win The Bruzzy with an 11-under 205. Iqbal carded a team-best 11 sub-70 scores on the season and among her six top-10 finishes, Iqbal finished fourth at the NCAA Regional. She was also named to the All-Big 12 team after the season.
The NCAA Woman of the Year award program, in its 32nd year, will be chosen from the 577 nominations submitted from member schools across all divisions. The average GPA from the nominee pool is 3.8. The award is based on four pillars: academics, athletics, service and leadership. Conference nominees will be announced in mid-August.
