
TCU Sweeps Santa Clara; Wins Seventh Straight

FORT WORTH – No. 15 TCU wrapped up the regular season with a sweep of Santa Clara after posting a 9-1 eight inning win over the Broncos Saturday afternoon at Lupton Stadium. The victory runs TCU's winning streak to seven games. Tommy Sacco homered twice and drove in three to lead the Horned Frogs.
The Rundown
Tommy Sacco got the scoring started with a one out opposite field home run in the first. Four walks in the third doubled TCU's lead as Luke Boyers drew the RBI-walk to make it a 2-0 game.
A two out home run in the fourth for Santa Clara cut the lead in half, but the Horned Frogs answered in the bottom of the inning to restore its two run lead, 3-1. Porter Brown and Elijah Nunez executed a one out double steal to tally the run.
Back-to-back two out hits from Brayden Taylor and Kurtis Byrne pushed the TCU advantage to 5-1 after six.
The Frogs put the game away in the seventh with four two out runs. Gray Rodgers started the rally with a double and scored on a Brown base hit. After a stolen base, Nunez singled home Brown for a 7-1 lead. Sacco book-ended his afternoon with a two run shot to right, accounting for the final score.
Riley Cornelio (4-4) twirled six innings, allowing a run on four hits. He walked two and struck out nine in the win. Caleb Bolden, Augie Mihlbauer and Garrett Wright recorded the final six outs in the game.
