Brown’s Record Day Propels TCU To Victory

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Runs came fast and furious for TCU as it won its third straight with a 30-3 victory over Kansas Saturday afternoon at Hoglund Ballpark. Porter Brown homered twice and drove in a school-record 10 runs to lead the offensive charge.

The Rundown
TCU sent 11 men to the plate in the first and scored seven times to take control early. Bobby Goodloe's bases-loaded single put the Horned Frogs up 2-0. Three straight two out hits pushed the lead to 7-0. Luke Boyers singled home one followed by a two run base knock from Gray Rodgers. Porter Brown capped the scoring with a two run blast to right center.

After Kansas picked up a run in the second, TCU responded with five in the third. With two out, a misplayed fly ball to left center ended up as a two run triple for Elijah Nunez. Tommy Sacco followed with an infield single and Brayden Taylor launched a two run blast to push the lead to 12-1.

Kansas scored single runs in the third and fourth to make it a 12-3 ballgame, but the Frogs struck for a quartet of runs in the sixth to open up a 16-3 advantage. Kurtis Byrne's sacrifice fly drove in the first run of the frame. Boyers doubled home another run and Brown doubled in two more.

The Frogs took advantage of five walks in the seventh and turned it into another seven spot. Michael Petrie hit a sacrifice fly to drive in the first run of the frame. Brown hit a grand slam for his second home run of the game. Hunter Teplanszky's single made it 23-3.

Brown's record-breaking bases-loaded, two run single extended the lead to 25-3. Brody Green led off the ninth with a home run and Rodgers hit a one out grand slam to account for the final score.

Lost in the offense was a quality start for Marcelo Perez (5-2). He allowed three runs on seven hits, walked two and struck out five in six innings of work. Tommy Vail, Connor Oliver and Gray Thomas each pitched an inning of relief.
