TCU senior cards a school record 9-under-par 63
FORT WORTH -- Sabrina Iqbal set a TCU record with a 9-under-par 63 to capture medalist honors as final-round play concluded Tuesday at The Bruzzy, held at Waterchase Golf Club in Fort Worth.
No. 29 TCU finished in second place out of 14 teams, right above No. 7 Oklahoma State and No. 13 Texas. The field included eight programs ranked in the top 50 nationally. The Horned Frogs were 12 under as a team in the final round to finish 9 under for the tournament.
Iqbal Makes History
Iqbal's 63 broke the TCU mark of 64, held by Sanna Nuutinen (2013) and Valeria Pacheco (2020). It also ties for the 11th-lowest round in NCAA history.
Iqbal started the day six strokes off the lead. For the second consecutive round, she began play with an eagle on the par 5, 525-yard 13th hole. Her five eagles tie Pacheco and Caitlyn Macnab for the TCU season record with all three accomplishing the mark this year. Iqbal's nine career eagles are one shy of Greta Bruner's program record of 10 (2017-21).
In addition to her eagle, Iqbal had a stretch of six consecutive birdies with all seven on the day coming over her final 12 holes.
A senior from San Jose, Calif., Iqbal is a medalist for the second time. In her second career tournament as a Horned Frog, she tied for first at the 2018 Maryb S. Kauth Invitational.
