Rifle Wins Air Rifle National Championships; Finishes Second Overall

Air Rifle title is fourth in program history.
COLORADO SPRINGS – The TCU women's rifle team successfully defended their Air Rifle National Championship, firing a 2,386 in the discipline. It's the fourth time in program history for the Horned Frogs to take home the air rifle title. Combined with Friday's smallbore score, the Frogs finished second overall with a final total of 4,736.
TCU fired three of the top 10 air rifle scores on the day. Kristen Hemphill and Stephanie Grundsoee qualified for a trip to the individual finals.
In the relays, Grundsoee fired a team-best 598, tying with two others for the top mark in the match. Hemphill finished fourth among all shooters with a 597. Nina Schuett matched her career-high with a 596. Stephanie Allan and Abigail Gordon fired identical marks of 595.
In the finals, Hemphill fired a 226 to finish third, and Grundsoee placed sixth after shooting a 162.4.
TCU produced four of the top 10 shooters overall. Hemphill finished third with an aggregate score of 1,186 and Grundsoee was sixth with an aggregate of 1,185. Gordon placed seventh with a 1,184. Allan rounded out the top 10 with an 1,180.
TCU was competing in the National Championships for the 16th straight year. The runner-up finish is the fourth in program history (2016, 2017 and 2021).
