Is the fifth Horned Frog to receive the accolade
LEXINGTON, Ky. – Audrey Nalls has already amassed a queen's ransom of awards in 2022, and the 6-2 outside hitter is showing no signs of slowing down.
Nalls was named to the American Volleyball Coaches' Association (AVCA) All-Southwest Region Team on Tuesday, becoming the fifth Horned Frog in program history to achieve the prestigious accolade.
She was one of 14 players and five outside hitters to receive the recognition.
Nalls is now eligible for the AVCA All-American Team, which will be announced on Dec. 14 ahead of the Final Four of the NCAA Division I Volleyball Championship.
A senior from Waxahachie, Texas, Nalls' latest honor comes one week after she was unanimously selected to the All-Big 12 Conference first team. Throughout 2022, Nalls claimed the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week crown four times. She was the only player this fall and the ninth in conference history to receive the award at four separate junctures.
The AVCA postseason awards voting portal closed prior to the start of the NCAA Tournament, though Nalls certainly justified her All-Region recognition in the Big Dance. On Friday, Nalls guided TCU to its first NCAA Tournament victory in six years, notching a match-leading 25 kills – one shy of her career high – in the Horned Frogs' 3-1 win over No. 25 Washington in the round of 64.
Nalls' back row dismantling of the Huskies punctuated perhaps the most prolific offensive season of any player in TCU's Big 12 era.
She tallied a team-best 470.5 points and 424 kills across 28 matches, averaging 3.85 kills per set. In set two of TCU's defeat of Washington, Nalls landed her 400th kill of the fall, becoming the first Horned Frog to achieve the milestone in 11 years of Big 12 membership. Nalls 424 kills were the eighth-most by any player in a single season in program history and the most in a single season since Ellen Rehme (501) in 2004. Her kills per set average is even better, as it now occupies the No. 7 slot on the Horned Frogs' individual single season records list.
Nalls was even more prolific as the schedule shifted to Big 12 play. She led her conference counterparts in kills (266), kills per set (4.39), points (293) and points per set (4.80) across 15 Big 12 contests. She also registered seven of her team and conference-leading nine performances with 20-or-more kills against Big 12 opposition. TCU was 6-1 in league play and 7-2 overall when Nalls landed at least 20 kills.
She now joins Anna Walsh (2017), Ashley Smith (2016), Natalie Gower (2016) and Reagan McGuire (2015) among a select group of Horned Frogs who boast AVCA All-Southwest Region Team credentials.
The Big 12 produced 13 AVCA All-Region honorees spanning the Southwest and Midwest divisions. All-Region teams were voted on by head coaches, who could not select their own players.
