Offensive guard is the first Horned Frog to garner the honor since 2015
INDIANAPOLIS -- The NCAA has announced TCU offensive guard Steve Avila as a consensus All-American for the 2022 season.
Players achieve consensus All-America status by being listed on the most first-team All-America teams, competing against players at that position only. The five organizations used in the consensus chart are the American Football Coaches Association, Associated Press, Football Writers Association of America, Sporting News and Walter Camp Football Foundation.
Avila is the first Horned Frog to be a consensus All-American since wide receiver Josh Doctson in 2015.
Avila is a Team Captain and anchor of an offensive line that paves the way for one of the nation's most prolific offensive attacks. He has started all 13 games this season. The First-Team All-Big 12 selection was also Honorable-Mention Big 12 Offensive Lineman of the Year. He has not allowed a sack in 477 pass blocking snaps this season.
The Horned Frogs rank among the FBS leaders in all major offensive categories and lead the nation with 19 plays of 50-plus yards while placing second with 10 plays of at least 60 yards. TCU is tied for the FBS lead with 13 offensive touchdowns of at least 50 yards. The Horned Frogs are also one of only two teams nationally averaging at least 270 yards per game passing, 200 rushing and have at least 30 passing and 30 rushing touchdowns.
Avila has helped lead TCU to its first College Football Playoff appearance with a 12-1 record, including a 9-0 Big 12 regular season. The No. 3 Horned Frogs will face No. 2 Michigan in the Dec. 31 Vrbo Fiesta Bowl.
Following the season, Avila will play in the 2023 Reese's Senior Bowl.
