Is the second Horned Frog to receive the award this season
IRVING – Callie Williams is taking home weekly Big 12 accolades for the first time in her six-year college career.
Williams, who transferred to TCU from Baylor in July, was named Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week for Oct. 31-Nov. 6 as announced by the conference on Tuesday.
A 5-8 setter, Williams was the catalyst behind the Horned Frogs' 3-1 rout of Texas Tech on Saturday. She assisted on 60 of TCU's season-high 70 kills – the most in a four-set match by any Big 12 team in 2022 – while passing at a .435 clip.
With Williams orchestrating TCU's 5-1 offensive rotation, the Horned Frogs connected at a .311 hitting percentage and finished with an 81-58 edge in points. Williams came one assist shy of matching her career high (61), which she attained in TCU's four set triumph over the Red Raiders on Oct. 8.
She tallied 10 digs to notch her seventh straight double-double and ninth of the fall. TCU is 7-2 when Williams records a double-double.
Williams has been the table setter for TCU volleyball's 2022 resurgence.
The Horned Frogs are 7-3 since pivoting to a 5-1 rotation and featuring Williams as their primary setter. TCU (12-10, 7-5 Big 12), now occupies sole possession of fourth place in the Big 12 standings ahead of Saturday's home showdown vs. No. 10 Baylor.
She leads the team in assists (812), digs (206), service aces (20) and double-doubles. Williams' impact is felt in all facets of the game, as she has also landed 55 kills and been credited with 15 blocks.
The Horned Frogs have won nine straight matches when Williams finishes with 40-or-more assists.
Williams' 470 assists are the second most in the Big 12 in conference-only matches. She ranks third in assists per set (10.44). She is averaging 43 assists per match in conference play. As a team, TCU ranks second only to No. 1 Texas in assists per set (12.98).
Her 812 total assists rank 92nd nationally.
Williams is the second Horned Frog to garner Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week honors in 2022. She joins Audrey Nalls, who received the recognition for Sept. 19-25 and Oct. 3-9. Williams' honor marks the first season in which TCU has produced multiple weekly Big 12 award winners since 2019.
Tuesday's announcement is perhaps the start of a string of accolades coming Williams' way in November. She is on pace to become the first player in TCU's Big 12 era to dish out 1,000 assists in a single season. Her assist per set mark is on track to rank ninth in single-season history on the program's career records list. Williams will become the first setter in TCU's 11-year run of Big 12 membership to receive postseason all-conference honors should she be named to the All-Big 12 first or second team come Nov. 29.
Williams, who is the daughter of TCU head coach Jason Williams, has totaled 2,559 career assists across 131 Division I matches played at Tennessee (2017-2018), Baylor (2019-2021) and TCU. She has been a member of four NCAA Tournament teams.
Fans can next catch Williams in action when TCU hosts her former team at 2 p.m. on Saturday inside Schollmaier Arena. TCU can earn its first win over a ranked opponent in six years should the Horned Frogs take down the Bears.
