TCU duo recognized for their efforts in the win over Texas Tech
IRVING, Texas -- TCU wide receiver/return specialist Derius Davis has been named the Big 12 Special Teams Player of the Week with linebacker Johnny Hodges the Co-Newcomer of the Week for their performance in Saturday's 34-24 win over Texas Tech.
Davis had an 82-yard punt return for TCU's first points of the game, giving him five career punt returns for touchdowns and a new school record. He also tied the Horned Frogs' all-time mark of six career special teams scores. He has one kickoff return for a touchdown. The 82-yard punt return was seventh-longest in TCU history. The senior from Saint Francisville, La., added a 23-yard touchdown catch as part of three receptions in the game.
Hodges led the Horned Frogs with eight tackles. The junior from Darnestown, Md., keyed a TCU defense that allowed just 256 yards of offense until a drive in the final minutes of the game, with the contest decided, brought Texas Tech to 352 total. The Red Raiders were just 3-of-16 on third-down conversions. Hodges has a team-best 55 tackles on the season.
