On the game:
"The great thing about this team is they've got a lot of confidence. They feel like if we can get into the game in the second half with a chance to win, we're going to figure out how to do it."
On if they switched up anything after halftime:
"No, we didn't change anything, really. It just seemed like we started to wear on them a little bit, which is what we've done [in the past]. You look at Kendre (Miller) running tough; most of his yards come later in the game, and today was no different. Our offensive line started to wear them down defensively."
On this being the best defensive performance this season:
"I thought our guys really played fast and ran to the ball well. They didn't give up a lot of big plays, and they battled through competitive plays. We knew they were going to come out and give us everything they have. Our defensive backs really competed in a lot of those one-on-one situations and didn't give up big plays."
On style points and trying to impress the committee:
"In the end, I don't think it's going to make one difference. It doesn't matter if you're in the American Conference or if you're in the Big 12, I think you should win your football games and the rest of it will take care of itself."
On Hypnotoad:
"Strangely enough, for the first time this season, I noticed it, and I also noticed we made a bunch of big plays after. I'm not a big believer in coincidence, if you know what I'm saying, so I think there may be something to it. Hey man, the Hypnotoad is powerful stuff."
TCU offensive lineman, Wes Harris
On the Frogs playing tight the last couple of games:
"We could be, but I don't think that's something we think about. I feel like we have a lot of attention on us now, but here's the thing, if we are going to be the team we can be and want to be, we can't let that stuff get to us. We have to see the big picture. Who cares about all the cameras and the good stuff, you know? To be honest with you, last year at this point, we were getting dogged on by everybody. Our own fans didn't even like us. The same people who are praising and lifting you up now are the same people who were kicking dirt on you this time a year ago. It's the truth. We can't let these bright lights and cameras get in our head. At the end of the day, we haven't done nothing yet. We're shooting for one thing, and until we get it, we need to keep our noses down and keep on chipping away."
TCU linebacker, Johnny Hodges
On the defense's performance today
"We're happy with how we played. We definitely did what we wanted to do: play hard, run the ball, and all that stuff we didn't feel like we did last week. There's still a bunch of stuff to fix. We gave them a touchdown in the first quarter. We keep climbing and getting better every week. They had some really good running backs. The offensive line played hard and gave us a good test but we rose to the occasion."
On Shadrach Banks stepping up today, amidst losing Dee Winters to ejection
"I thought he did a great job stepping in. He came in for me at the end of the half and did well. He's just such an athletic player and he's getting smarter every day. He switched from receiver to linebacker and that's not easy. There's a lot of stuff that goes into being a linebacker. It's not just tackling. I thought he did a great job. Playing Dee's position is really hard because you're playing the field. You have to be able to run to the ball, tackle and run the defense. He made a great sack. I'm just proud of him waiting his turn, getting better, and it showed today."
On facing Texas next Saturday
"We just watch film, get a game plan and execute the game plan. It's just another game. They have a great team, great running backs, great offensive line but it's not like we're afraid of "the name". We're just getting better. Play hard in practice this week to be the best we can be."
TCU wide receiver, Derius Davis
On his return touchdown
"They outkicked their coverage and like I've said before my job is the easiest job. The hardest part is going to block, so all I really did was go right, go upfield, and make a cutback. My blockers made my job very easy, so credit to those guys."
On lacking Quentin Johnston today
"Blair Conwright stepped up. He had a great week in practice, so when Quentin went down Blair stepped up and made plays for us."
On being undefeated
"It's a blessing. This is my fifth year here and I've never had more than seven wins, so being nine and zero is a blessing and I'm very grateful to be a part of this team."
TCU quarterback, Max Duggan
On lacking Quentin Johnston today:
"When you lose "Q" with the talent that he has and the type of player he is it affects us a little bit. It's the next guy up and Blair (Conwright) came in and had a good catch early on in the first half. We just made adjustments, doing our job, executing well. A lot had to do with quarterback play and I didn't play very good. I need to play better and get the guys the ball. I don't think I did a very good job of that tonight and that's a little responsibility on me. We just had to keep rolling and get our guys going and start executing. It was less of what they were doing and more of what we were doing."
On facing Texas next Saturday:
"There's going to be a lot [of attention]. That's reality, but the good thing about Coach Dykes and this program is that we don't really worry about it and he just continues to talk about the next game. It's the most important game because it's the next game and we know we have only three games left in the regular season. We have to play our best because we have three really good teams coming in, so you can't put one higher or lower than the other."
Texas Tech head coach, Joey McGuire
On the game:
"We played a really good team today. TCU did a good job in the second half, something they have done all year long. I'm proud of our guys. There at the end we get a fourth-down stop when we could've folded. Then we come out and get a drive to go into the endzone. That says a lot about what we're building and who we are. But it's a frustrating game because we have the lead and we just have to make plays to win the game. We were 3-of-6 on fourth down, we have to continue to get better than that. We're going to be banged up. But we'll get some guys back. Hopefully some of the guys that didn't get to finish the game will be back on Sunday or Monday and be ready for practice on Tuesday."
On the status of quarterback Behren Morton:
"It's the same ankle he hurt against Oklahoma State. We didn't feel like he could go. We fought through it against Oklahoma State and thought he could go today and he wanted to. He was upset on the sideline that he couldn't."
On the fourth quarter:
"I thought they ran the ball in the second half. I think that had a lot to do with some of their conversions. I think it's 17-13 when we had the lead. That was a big drive. We had the opportunity to get off the field. It could have been different there heading into the fourth quarter with the lead."
On the facemask call:
"We were up 17-13 and there were a lot of conversions on that drive. It was tough. I saw a lot of stuff today that I still don't understand. Without getting my tail fined and putting us in a bad situation. It's really frustrating. I can't explain that right there."
On how to keep positive through consecutive losses:
"Twenty-four hour rule. I'm going to be upset for 24 hours then we're going to come back and do the same thing tomorrow. We've got three games left. There's a lot of football. I really feel like our guys, just those last two drives, shows you what we're trying to do and how we are building this team. We talk about having a pump-jack mentality and being the same guy each day. If I don't come back and have a great attitude and I'm a hypocrite, I can't be the guy I'm telling them to be. I'll come back tomorrow and we'll watch some film and see what we can correct and get ready for a really good Kansas team coming into Lubbock next week."
Texas Tech quarterback, Tyler Shough
On staying ready:
"I was going to go in and do my job. I was preparing to be the starter the whole week. I've been in those positions. I've been a backup. I've been a starter. I took it seriously and I knew at some point my number was going to be called I did the best I could to help score points and to help win. The end result is not what we wanted and at the end of the day we have to do better."
On shaking off the rust:
"My mind is 100 percent to be honest. I've seen everything clearly. My body is getting back to that game speed, trying to make plays where my mind wants me to go. At this point, I feel 100 percent and I'm ready to get back out there to play with my teammates. There is some rust obviously coming back with a broken collar bone, it was tuff mentally and physically. Mentally I've never been stronger, I'm just happy to be back out there.
On timing with receivers:
"We've been working together all offseason, so we have some chemistry. There are some plays you would like to have back and new guys in different positions. Myles (Price) will run routes differently than (J.J.) Sparkman or Loic (Fouonji). Trying to get a good connection with those guys and I think you will see a lot more of it."
On running the ball:
"I felt fine. Last week was the biggest question, coming back earlier and after taking a hit, I knew I was fine."
Texas Tech linebacker, Jesiah Pierre
On fourth quarters:
"It's just the little things. It's the execution. We need to get back in the film room and get better. It's a process with guys. We need to build chemistry."
On late-game fatigue:
"That's where our young guys come and step up. We have a lot of depth in our position. It's about guys grinding, taking care of our bodies and being pros."
On sideline energy with the lead:
"It was being like, 'let's keep at it. We can't be satisfied with that drive.' It was exciting, it brought a lot of energy to the sideline and we were encouraging each other. We need to work on the things we need to fix and focus on the next drive."
On pass rush:
"I've really tried to take what coach C.J. Ah You has been trying to teach me and really teach the whole room. It's about performing on demand. When your number is called you have to go out and perform. It doesn't matter the situation. It doesn't matter how you feel. You have to go out and work hard for your brothers. I've been really trying to focus on myself as a leader. I've tried to put the work in to help be the best I can be out there for the team."
