
Jong's Opening-Round Win Kicks Off TCU's Run at ITA All-American Championships

Qualifying singles draw continues on Tuesday
TULSA, Okla. – The first victory of the ITA All-American Championships is in the books for TCU.
Sander Jong secured a three-set win over Gonzaga's Sasha Trkulja in in the round of 128 of the qualifying singles draw on Monday.
Jong, the No. 58 ITA singles player, dropped the first set 4-6. He battled back to even the match at one set apiece with a 6-4 triumph in set two. The Amsterdam native left little doubt in the decisive third frame, blowing past Trkulja 6-1.
He'll meet No. 100 Finn Bass of Baylor in the round of 64. Jong must win twice on Tuesday to advance to the ITA Men's All-American Singles Championship, which runs from Wednesday-Sunday.
Jong has won three of his first four fall matches with Monday's result.
No. 66 Lui Maxted, Jong's doubles partner, was also in action on Monday. Maxted dropped a hard-fought match to USC's Wojtek Marek 6-2, 3-6, 4-6.
Jong and Maxted will make their 2022-23 doubles debut on Wednesday in the round of 32 of the ITA Men's All-American Doubles Championship. They earned the No. 3 preseason ITA doubles ranking in September and enter the tournament seeded second. The duo combined for an 18-7 overall record and All-Big 12 second team accolades in 2022.
Four Frogs are set to see action in the Sooner State this week. Luc Fomba is slated to make his tournament debut in both the main singles and doubles draws. He received an automatic qualification into the main singles draw as the No. 5 ITA singles player and is seeded fourth in the 64-player bracket. Fomba and Pedro Vives automatically qualified for the main doubles draw as well. The duo is competing alongside one another for the first time.
