Maxted, Miller and Jong honored by TCU
FORT WORTH – Kendre Miller of football, Sander Jong and Lui Maxted of men's tennis have been named TCU Student-Athletes of the week, presented by Bob's Steak and Chop House.
Miller, a junior, ran for a team-best 153 yards on 29 carries, including two touchdowns. This is his fourth 100-yard effort of the season and eighth of his career. Miller has a touchdown in all seven games this season with a team-best 10 touchdowns on the season. His eighth consecutive games with a rushing touchdown ranks second all-time at TCU, behind only LaDainian Tomlinson who had 15 from 1999-2000. Miller's 29 carries were the most by a Horned Frog since Sewo Olonilua had 32 for 194 yards against Cal in the 2018 Cheez-It Bowl.
Horned Frogs football will travel to Morgantown for a matchup against West Virginia on Saturday. Kickoff is scheduled for 11 a.m.
Jong, a senior from Amsterdam and Maxted, a native from Worthing, England, were runners-up at the ITA Texas Regional Men's Double Championship. They earned an automatic berth to the ITA Fall National Championships with their 6-2, 6-3 sweep of Baylor's Tadeas Paroulek and Zsombor Velcz in the semifinals. On the week, Jong and Maxted posted a 4-1 record, with sweeps in all four of their victories. This was the first time as the No. 3 ITA doubles pairing, they played together this fall. On top of their performance in doubles, Jong advanced to the round of 16 of the main singles draw and is 5-3 in singles play through three-of-four fall tournaments.
Men's tennis will travel to San Diego, CA for the ITA Fall National Championships. The tournament will start on Wednesday, November 2, and go until November 6.
