Baugh, Freri and Hemphill earn weekly honors
FORT WORTH – Damion Baugh of men's basketball, Geremia Freri of men's swimming and diving, and Kristen Hemphill of rifle, have all been named TCU Student-Athletes of the week, presented by Bob's Steak and Chop House.
Baugh, a junior from Nashville,Tenn., scored a career-high 23 points and had seven rebounds, seven steals, and five assists in the Frogs' win over No.15 Iowa State. Only one other player nationally has achieved at least these totals in a single game this season. Additionally, Baugh's seven steals are the most by a Big 12 player in four seasons and the highest total in a Big 12 game.
Men's basketball will return to the court this Saturday for a home matchup against No. 19 LSU as a part of the Big 12/SEC Challenge. Tip-off is scheduled for 11 a.m. in Schollmaier Arena and will be broadcast on ESPN2.
Freri, a freshman from Verona, Italy, recorded the sole individual victory for TCU against No. 1 Texas with his first-place finish in the 500 freestyle. Freri also broke the 400 long course meters record and was a member of the record-breaking 800 LCM relay team during Saturday's time trials.
Men's swimming and diving will be back on the road this weekend for their match-up at Incarnate Word in San Antonio, Texas. Races will begin Friday and continue Saturday.
Hemphill, a junior from Lohn, Texas, finished first in both smallbore and air rifle in the win at Ohio State. With marks of 591 in smallbore, 599 in air rifle, Hemphill tied her career high marks and recorded a career best aggregate score of 1190. Her scores helped TCU to tie the NCAA aggregate score record of 4,572 and set the NCAA mark in air rifle with an aggregate air rifle score of 2,394.
Rifle will take a two week break from competition before taking aim again in Colorado Spring, Colo. for the Patriot Rifle Conference Championships Feb. 5-6.
