TCU quarterback appears on the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award Watch List
BALDWIN, Md. -- TCU quarterback Max Duggan has been named to the watch list for the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award.
Duggan ran for a team-best 526 yards last season, making him the first quarterback to lead TCU in rushing since Gil Bartosh in 1950 (710 yards). He topped the Horned Frogs with 10 rushing touchdowns, the most by a TCU signal caller since Kenny Hill, his position coach, had 10 in 2016. Duggan also became the first TCU quarterback with multiple 100-yard rushing games in a season in the 20-year Gary Patterson head coaching era. He rushed for a career-high and team-best 154 yards and three touchdowns in a 34-18 win over Texas Tech, including an 81-yard scoring run that was the longest by a quarterback in TCU history and tied for 10th-best overall.
A junior from Council Bluffs, Iowa, Duggan totaled 369 yards of offense (265 passing, 104 rushing) in a 29-22 win over No. 15 Oklahoma State. The three-longest completions of his career came in the final two games with 76- and 71-yard touchdown passes to Quentin Johnston and Derius Davis against Louisiana Tech and Oklahoma State, respectively, as well as a 58-yard connection to Johnston versus OSU. He completed 20-of-30 passes for 231 yards while adding a team-best 79 yards rushing and two touchdowns on the ground in a 33-31 win at No. 9 Texas. His 26-yard scamper with 4:01 to play provided the go-ahead score. For the season, Duggan completed 60.8 percent of his passes with 10 touchdowns and just four interceptions.
Duggan also appears on watch lists for the Davey O'Brien Award, Maxwell Award and Manning Award.
