
Five Horned Frogs Drafted On Final Day

TCU has six players drafted in 2021
FORT WORTH – Five TCU baseball players were drafted on the final day of the 2021 MLB Draft. The Horned Frogs saw a total of six players selected in this year's draft, the third-most in the Big 12.
Johnny Ray was the Frogs' first pick of Day 3, going in the 12th round to the Chicago White Sox. A pair of Frogs were selected in the 18th round. Phillip Sikes went to the Boston Red Sox, while Harrison Beethe was drafted by the Kansas City Royals. The draft concluded with two Frogs drafted in the 20th round. Marcelo Perez was selected by the Los Angeles Angels and Haylen Green by the Chicago White Sox.
Ray spent two years in the Purple and White. He made 15 starts as part of 17 appearances. The right-hander racked up 66 strikeouts in 65 2/3 career innings pitched.
Sikes enjoyed a breakout season in 2021 en route to earning All-America accolades. He hit .329 on the season and led the team with 63 RBIs. Of his team-leading 70 hits, he tallied 19 doubles, five triples and 11 home runs. Additionally, he contributed five outfield assists.
Beethe made 14 appearances in his TCU career. The Fort Worth native posted a 3.18 ERA and limited opponents to a .225 batting average.
Perez has made 36 appearances in his three seasons with the Horned Frogs. He owns a 5-2 career record with five saves. In 59 2/3 career innings, the right-hander has fanned 70 batters.
Green, a two-time All-American in the Purple and White, spent five seasons as a Horned Frog. The left-hander made 10 starts as part of 88 career appearances. In 168 2/3 innings pitched, he fanned 176 and issued just 50 walks. The last two seasons have seen Green at his most dominant. He tallied 13 saves in 33 appearances while striking out 74 and walking just 10 in 66 1/3 innings.
The five join Russell Smith who was drafted in the second round by the Milwaukee Brewers on Day 2.
Since head coach Kirk Saarloos' arrival on campus in 2013, TCU has had 45 players drafted, including 27 pitchers.
