
TCU Completes Sweep; Rallies Past West Virginia

Frogs score nine unanswered runs
MORGANTOWN, W. Va. – No. 5 TCU struck for nine unanswered runs in the final three innings to complete the sweep of West Virginia with a 9-1 victory on Sunday in Morgantown. Tommy Sacco had a four hit game and Luke Savage tossed 3 2/3 scoreless innings of relief.
The Rundown
Trailing 1-0 after six innings, TCU staged a furious rally that started with one out in the seventh. Porter Brown and Tommy Sacco singled to start the comeback. Three straight two out walks had the Frogs in front 2-1. Brayden Taylor and Hunter Wolfe drew the bases loaded free passes to drive in the runs.
A three spot in the eighth gave the Frogs some breathing room. Phillip Sikes tripled to lead off the inning and scored on an errant pick-off throw. Sacco tripled home Brown and scored on an Elijah Nunez groundout for a 5-1 lead.
Four more runs crossed the plate in the ninth. Brayden Taylor led off the inning with a base hit and scored on a Conner Shepherd double. Gray Rodgers doubled home Shepherd and Sikes scored on a wild pitch. Sacco's fourth hit of the game brought home Rodgers with the final run of the game.
Johnny Ray turned in a solid start, allowing a run on four hits in 5 1/3 innings. He struck out three and walked two. Luke Savage was outstanding in relief, retiring 10 of the 11 batters he faced. He allowed an infield single and struck out a career-high five batters to improve to 3-0 on the season.
