Green tallies 10th save of the season
FORT WORTH – TCU struck for four runs in the sixth to take a lead it would never relinquish en route to a 6-4 victory over ULM in the series finale at Lupton Stadium on Saturday night. River Ridings threw four shutout relief innings for the Horned Frogs.
The Rundown
ULM opened the scoring with a pair of two out runs in the first, but could never add to its lead. An opportunity with two in scoring position and two outs in the third went by the wayside as Luke Savage's third strikeout of the game stranded the runners.
TCU battled to tie the game at two in the fifth. Austin Henry led off the inning with a base hit and moved to second on a walk to Kurtis Byrne. The duo executed a double steal and the throw to second went into center, allowing Henry to score the first run. Rhett Maynard's sacrifice fly tied the game.
Back-to-back walks to Porter Brown and Zach Humphreys to open the sixth set the table for a big inning. Brayden Taylor gave the Frogs a 3-2 lead with a base hit. A balk allowed Humphreys to score for a two-run advantage. Taylor slid home ahead of the tag on a ball hit by Austin Henry and Luke Boyers singled to make it a 6-2 contest.
ULM pulled within three, 6-3, in the eighth as a lead-off walk scored on a double. With the bases loaded and two outs, Haylen Green came on and struck out Wiley Cleland to end the inning. The Warhawks picked up a two out run in the ninth, but Green's second strikeout ended the game.
River Ridings ( 3-1) was outstanding in relief in earning the win. He faced the minimum in his four innings, allowing just one hit that was erased on a double play. He fanned three.
