Taylor homers for fourth straight game
The Rundown
TCU opened the scoring with three runs in the first. Elijah Nunez drew a lead-off walk and two batters later scored on a Brayden Taylor base hit. Hunter Wolfe scored on a throwing error and Kurtis Byrne singled to make it a 3-0 game.
Three more runs crossed the plate in the second aided by four wild pitches. Wolfe collected the only RBI of the frame, grounding out to drive in Nunez.
The Texans got on the board in the bottom of the second, but TCU responded with two runs in the third to extend the lead to seven, 8-1. Phillip Sikes' two run triple highlighted the inning.
Tarleton pulled within one, 8-7, over the next two innings. In the third, the Texans scored five two out runs. A solo home run in the fourth made it a one run game.
That's as close as Tarleton would get as TCU answered with four in the fifth and one in the sixth. Sikes doubled home another two out run and Taylor followed with a three run home run for a 12-7 lead. Three errors in the sixth gifted the Frogs its final run of the game.
River Ridings (1-0) took over in the fifth after Tarleton had made it a 12-9 ballgame. He went 1 2/3 innings in earning his first career win. The freshman allowed two hits, walked two and struck out one. Garrett Wright pitched two scoreless innings with three strikeouts. Haylen Green closed out the game for the Frogs.
