
TCU Bounces Back; Tops UT Arlington 8-3

Sikes drives in four runs
ARLINGTON, Texas – No. 5 TCU scored four times in the second to erase an early deficit and never looked back as it completed the season sweep of UT Arlington with an 8-3 win Tuesday night at Clay Gould Ballpark. Phillip Sikes homered and drove in four to lead the Horned Frogs.
The Rundown
UT Arlington opened the scoring in the first as it took advantage of a lead-off hit batter. The run scored on a sacrifice fly.
TCU wasted little time turning the advantage in its favor. Gene Wood worked a lead-off walk and scored on a Hunter Wolfe double. Two batters later, Phillip Sikes launched a three run home run to right for a 4-1 TCU lead.
Holding a two run lead heading into the fifth, TCU struck for a trio of runs in the inning to increase its advantage to five, 7-2. With runners on the corners, Wood executed a perfect hit-and-run to drive in Brayden Taylor with the first run of the inning. Wolfe collected his second RBI of the night with a base hit and Sikes drove in the final run with a sacrifice fly.
TCU picked up its final run of the game in eighth. Nunez walked for the third time in the game to keep the inning alive and moved to third on a Taylor base hit. He scored easily on Humphreys' base hit for an 8-3 lead.
Luke Savage (2-0) made his second straight Tuesday night start. He tossed four innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on three hits. He didn't walk a batter and struck out three. Marcelo Perez allowed a run in his two innings of work. Drew Hill retired five of six batters faced in his 1 2/3 innings on the mound. Augie Mihlbauer retired the only batter he faced in the eighth. Garrett Wright pitched a scoreless ninth and punched out two.
