TCU junior begins play Wednesday at Augusta National Golf Club
FORT WORTH -- TCU women's golfer Sabrina Iqbal begins play Wednesday at the Augusta National Women's Amateur in Augusta, Ga.
Iqbal has an 11:30 a.m. CDT tee time with live scoring available at Anwa.com. The first two rounds will be held at the Champions Retreat Golf Club with the final round at Augusta National Golf Club.
"I am extremely excited to be able to play in the Augusta National Women's Amateur and have a chance to go to Augusta National which has so much history," Iqbal said. "This is an amazing opportunity for me to play against the best amateurs in the world, and I know this is an experience I will remember forever.
"TCU has been an amazing place for me to grow as a golfer and person the last three years, and I can't wait to represent TCU in Georgia."
A junior from San Jose, Calif., Iqbal has posted a top-20 result in 19 of 27 career tournaments. Included in that total are 12 top-10 finishes and medalist honors at the 2018 Maryb S. Kauth Invitational in just her second collegiate tournament, leading the Horned Frogs to the team title. The only tournament she has missed in her three years at TCU was this past weekend's The Bruzzy, as she prepared for the Augusta National Women's Amateur.
Iqbal set a TCU season record last year with a 72.0 stroke average. She broke another TCU mark for 54-hole score with a 7-under-par 209 in tying for fourth at the season opening Golfweek Conference Challenge. She then tied her own record when she closed the season with another 7-under 209 as the runner-up at the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational.
As a freshman in 2018-19, Iqbal received All-Big 12 honors when she recorded a team-best 73.0 stroke average, just shy of the previous TCU record of 72.9 by Emmy Martin in 2016-17.
