TCU tallies seven extra base hits
FORT WORTH – TCU scored seven times in the first inning and never looked back in picking up a 20-2 victory over Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Tuesday night. The Horned Frogs pitching staff allowed just one hit and struck out 10. Offensively, the Frogs hit four home runs as part of a 16-hit night.
The Rundown
TCU sent 12 men to the plate in the first and seven crossed the plate. Gene Wood opened the scoring with a sacrifice fly. Kurtis Bryne delivered a two-run double to push the lead to 3-0. After Garrison Berkley grounded out to make it a 4-0 game, Porter Brown doubled in another run. The inning was capped by a two-run double from Phillip Sikes.
Four more runs crossed the plate in the second. Brown singled home two runs and Sikes tallied his third RBI to highlight the inning.
Back-to-back home runs in the third from Sam Thompson and Wood pushed the TCU lead to 13-0.
After being held off the fourth, TCU exploded for another seven runs. Austin Henry led off the inning with a base hit and Byrne connected on his first career home. Bobby Goodloe followed with his first career home run. Cruz Shope and Rhett Maynard contributed RBIs and Mason Speaker drove in the final two runs of the night for TCU.
UAPB ended the shutout as it took advantage of two walks to open the sixth. A passed ball and a ground out allowed the runs to score.
On the mound, Riley Cornelio (1-1) went three innings, allowing a hit and striking out three. Garrett Wright struck out three of the four batters he faced. Harrison Beethe fanned two off the three batters he faced. Storm Hierholzer allowed two runs (one earned) on two walks and a strikeout in his lone inning. Augie Mihlbauer and Johnny Ray combined to get the final three outs of the game.

1 – Six TCU pitchers combined to throw the program's 20th one-hitter. It's the first since May 6, 2018 when Haylen Green tossed a nine-inning one-hitter against Lamar.
