
TCU Turns In Solid Qualifier Score

TCU solidifies 15th straight NCAA Championship appearance
FORT WORTH – TCU turned in a solid team score of 4,712 in the NCAA qualifier to lock up what will be its 15thstraight NCAA Championships appearance. For the 11th time this season, Stephanie Grundsoee led the Horned Frogs in aggregate score as TCU toppled Air Force, 4,712-4,677, Saturday afternoon.
TCU posted scores of 2,338 in smallbore and 2,374 in air rifle. The Frogs boasted four of the top five individual scores in the match. Grundsoee and Kristen Hemphill were the top two finishers, firing aggregate scores of 1,188 and 1,187, respectively. Abigail Gordon posted an aggregate of 1,169 to sit fourth and Grace Taschuk rounded out the top five with an 1,165.
In smallbore, Grundsoee fired a 592 to finish atop the leaderboard. For the second match in a row, Hemphill shot a 590, finishing second. Taschuk finished fourth with a score of 579 followed by Gordon in sixth with a 577.
Air rifle saw the Horned Frogs fire four of the top six marks in the match. Hemphill paced the field with a 597. Grundsoee sat third with a 596. Gordon fired a 592 to sit fourth, while Nina Schuett finished sixth with a 589. Stephanie Allan tied her career high with a 588.
Air Force fired a team score of 2,314 in smallbore and a 2,363 in air rifle. The Falcons were led by Fiori's 1,181. He was their top shooter in smallbore with a 584 as well as air rifle with a 597.
With the fourth and final mark of 4,712 from the qualifier, TCU's score that will be used by the selection committee is a 9,442.33. This is determined by the sum of its three-score average and its qualifier score. The Frogs unofficially sit in third, behind Kentucky and Ole Miss. The Horned Frogs will qualify for their 15th consecutive NCAA Championship appearance.
The final eight schools competing will be officially announced during the NCAA NC Rifle Selection Show, which will air Tuesday, Feb. 23, at 2 p.m. (CT) on NCAA.com.
