Boyers tallies two hits in collegiate debut
ARLINGTON, Texas – No. 10 TCU dropped a 7-3 decision to No. 6 Ole Miss in its opening game of the State Farm College Baseball Showdown at Globe Life Field on Saturday afternoon. Luke Boyers tallied a pair of hits in his collegiate debut.
The Rundown
The bulk of the game's scoring came in the second inning as the teams combined to score seven runs. Ole Miss jumped out to a 4-0 lead, taking advantage of two walks and a hit batter. Ben Van Cleve put the Rebels in front with a two-run double.
TCU battled back to get within a run, scoring three runs in the bottom of the inning. Austin Henry opened the frame with a double. A walk to Gray Rodgers and a two-out infield single from Luke Boyers loaded the bases. Three straight walks to Elijah Nunez, Tommy Sacco and Hunter Wolfe made it a 4-3 ballgame.
The Frogs had multiple opportunities to tie the game, but couldn't come up with the big hit. The best opportunity came in the sixth after a Boyers lead-off single and a walk to Nunez put two on with nobody out. They were both in scoring position with one out, but the Rebels pitched out of the jam.
Ole Miss added two big insurance runs in the seventh as it took advantage of a one-out error to score a pair of unearned runs. A two-out double from Peyton Chatagnier pushed the Rebel lead to 6-3. They added another two-out run in the ninth to account for the final score.
Johnny Ray (0-1) allowed four runs on three hits in three innings of work. He walked three and struck out four. Haylen Green turned in a 3 2/3 innings of work. He was touched for two unearned runs on two hits. He struck out five. Drew Hill pitched the final 2 1/3, allowing a run on four hits and striking out four.

11 – TCU had runners on in all but two innings, but stranded 11 runners, including seven in scoring position.
