Frogs begin Monday at 1 p.m. CT
FORT WORTH – TCU men's golf will leave the frozen land of Fort Worth for the warmth of Southern California this week when it competes at The Prestige, Feb. 15-17, at The Club at PGA West (Greg Norman Course) in La Quinta, Calif.
Of the 24-team field, six are ranked in the top 17 in the country according to the latest Bushnell/Golfweek Coaches Poll. Many of the teams, like TCU, will embrace the warmer temperatures, expected to be in the mid-70s when the practice round gets underway Sunday.
TCU will go with the lineup of sophomore Mateo Fernández de Oliveira, freshman Jacob Olesen, sophomore Gustav Frimodt, junior Justin Gums and sophomore Chris Berzina. They will play 18 holes on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, starting at 1 p.m. CT each day.
TEAMS (rankings by Bushnell/Golfweek Coaches Poll)
No. 3 Arizona State, No. 5 Pepperdine, No. 9 San Diego State, No. 11 Arizona, No. 16 Texas Tech, No. 17 SMU, Cal, Cal-Poly, Colorado, Denver, Iowa State, Long Beach State, Marquette, North Carolina, Northwestern, Oregon, Oregon State, Stanford, USC, TCU, UC Davis, UCLA, Wyoming.
HOW TO FOLLOW
Live scoring will be provided by GolfStat.com. No spectators will be allowed at The Club at PGA West.
THE COURSE – Par 71 | 7,100 yards
The Greg Norman Course is the newest course at PGA West and is the only Greg Norman-designed course in the Coachella Valley. It is described as very challenging but fair. Sporting only 68 acres of lush manicured turf, 102 white crushed marble bunkers and shark blue water coming into play on nine holes, this course offers a truly "Outback" experience.
LAST TIME OUT
TCU defeated No. 19 SMU in match play, 4.5-3.5 on Jan. 30 at Vaquero Golf Club just outside of Fort Worth.
NOTES
- TCU is a three-time winner of The Prestige. The Horned Frogs won the event in 2002, 2008 and 2009. A TCU player has also won the tournament three times with Colby Beckstrom (2003), Johan de Beer (2008) and Daniel Jennevret (2009).
- This season is the 21st anniversary of The Prestige. It has been eight years since TCU last played in event. The last time the Frogs were in the tournament, they finished seventh on Feb. 20, 2013.
- TCU was saddened in November with the sudden passing of longtime volunteer assistant Dana Bellenger. In December, TCU announced the creation of the Dana Bellenger Endowed Scholarship for Men's Golf. Bellenger's initials "DB" will be visible on TCU's hat throughout the season.
- Bill Montigel is in his 41st season at TCU and his 34th season as the head coach of TCU men's golf. Associate Head Coach Adrien Mork is in his fourth season at TCU.
