Mapaya Breaks School Record, Facility Record in Lubbock

LUBBOCK, Texas — TCU's men's and women's track and field teams concluded the final day of the Texas Tech Shootout on Saturday.
Just Du It
For the second consecutive meet, Chengetayi (Du) Mapaya put on a show from the start. On his first jump (16.80m), the senior broke the meet and facility record at Texas Tech's Sports Performance Center.
Du Airlines took off for 16.85m (55-3.5) on his second attempt, improving his NCAA-leading mark. Mapaya's jump ranks No. 7 in the world.
Mapaya's mark set a new indoor personal best for the Harare, Zimbabwe, native. Mapaya's previous best jump was 16.83m (55-2.75) at the 2019 Big 12 Indoor Championships that set a TCU and Big 12 meet record.
Men's 200m
Two Frogs finished in the top-five of the men's 200m. Tinotenda Matiyenga and Kundai Maguranyanga finished in third and fourth, respectively.
Simbarashe Maketa completed the trio of Horned Frogs in the top-10 with a time of 21.18 for seventh place.
Collegiate-Best Marks
Freshman Kyler Van Grouw set a new collegiate-best (15.58m / 51-1.5) in the men's shot put.
Tatianna Martinez recorded the 10th fastest time in the women's 200m (24.48) en route to her personal-best mark. The sophomore leads TCU's women in the event.
Maketa's 200m time (21.18) was also a collegiate-best.
Men's 4x400
TCU's 4x400 relay of Maketa, Matiyenga, Maguryanga and Ethan Brown clocked its season-best time of 3:08.23 for a second-place finish.
