TCU Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Jeremiah Donati provides an update on the latest topics for the Horned Frogs
Dear Horned Frogs Fans:
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays! I hope everyone enjoys this special time of year with family and friends. I am thrilled to give our beloved and loyal fans a lengthy and special Holiday version of our monthly newsletter.
It has been an exciting month as we welcomed three new head coaches to TCU in Sonny Dykes (football), Jason Williams (volleyball) and Jenny Garrison (women's triathlon).
It was great to see so many of you at Coach Dykes' helicopter arrival in Amon G. Carter Stadium. The turnout was much appreciated by Coach and his family - thank you for making such a positive first impression! I hope you saw a recent Sunday Fort Worth Star-Telegram with a special message from Coach Dykes on what it means for him to be at TCU. There are so many things that made him our top choice. While you can begin with his overall success as a head coach, offensive mind and ability to develop quarterbacks, he has a great plan for recruiting in Texas and especially the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. He has also excelled at navigating the transfer portal and having a plan to support student-athletes in the new NIL era. With the leadership and culture he brings to TCU, he fit all the categories we were looking for in our next head football coach. It also reaffirmed execution of the timeline and plan we initially set forth in our search. I would like to thank TCU Chancellor Victor Boschini, our Board of Trustees and internal search committee on this well-supported decision. We also appreciate Turnkey ZRG, and especially Chad Chatlos, for its tremendous amount of research in this very thorough process.
If you follow recruiting, and I know a lot of you do, you likely noticed that Coach Dykes and his staff are off to a fast start and made quite an impression on National Signing Day. We had the third-highest composite average per prospect in the Big 12 Conference after Day 1 of the early signing period.

Turnkey ZRG also assisted us in the search with Jason becoming our new volleyball coach. He was the associate head coach at Baylor and instrumental in its recent success of three straight NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 trips, including a Final Four in 2019. Like with Coach Dykes, Coach Williams has made a great impact in recruiting the DFW Metroplex and the state of Texas. We were also very impressed with his emphasis on the student-athlete experience, both on and off the court.
Jenny will be terrific as our first-ever head coach in women's triathlon. She is a perfect fit in meeting our goal of being immediately competitive nationally when we begin competition in Fall 2023. Jenny started the women's triathlon program at North Central College and they soon won three straight Division III National Championships. They have also produced the last four individual national champions. An elite triathlete, Jenny's enthusiasm and passion for the sport are noticed by recruits.
2022 FOOTBALL SCHEDULE ANNOUNCE
Just one day after our press conference to welcome Sonny Dykes as our new head football coach, our 2022 schedule was announced.
In case you missed it, it can be found HERE. Please note we had a recent date change with our season opener at Colorado. It was moved up one day to Friday, September 2. Our home debut will be on September 10 against Tarleton. I have enjoyed hearing that some of you are already making your travel plans to Boulder to join us for the opening of the Coach Dykes era. We will have five Big 12 Conference home games, beginning on October 1 versus Oklahoma.

BACK-TO-BACK BIG 12 CHAMPIONS
Congratulations to Head Coach Eric Bell and everyone in our women's soccer program on another terrific season that saw us repeat as Big 12 Conference champions! Not only did we go back-to-back, but our 2-1 win over Texas at the Big 12 Championship allowed us to become just the 10th team in conference history to win the regular season and tournament titles in the same season.
Coach Bell was again selected as Big 12 Coach of the Year. Our staff, which also includes Associate Head Coach Ryan Higginbotham, Assistant Coach Tom Serratore and Director of Operations Hannah Grant, was voted by their peers as the Midwest Region Staff of the Year for a second consecutive season. We set a program record for victories with our 19-2-3 record. We also became one of only 14 programs nationally to play in each of the last six NCAA Tournaments as we advanced to the Sweet 16, before falling in penalty kicks at Rutgers.
Our student-athletes were also very well rewarded with postseason honors. Messiah Bright and Brandi Peterson were named All-Americans with Messiah a semifinalist for the MAC Hermann Trophy presented to the nation's top player. Joining Messiah and Brandi on the All-Midwest Region Team were Gracie Brian, Lauren Kellett and Jenna Winebrenner. Lauren was also Big 12 Goalkeeper of the Year with Brandi the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year.
Our program also shined academically as Brandie and Gracie received Scholar All-America honors from the United Soccer Coaches Association.
CAP AND GOWN
Congratulations to our 18 student-athletes across five sports, as well as all TCU students, who received their degree at Saturday's commencement ceremony in Ed & Rae Schollmaier Arena. A complete list can be found HERE.
HARDWOOD SUCCESS
It is exciting times for our men's and women's basketball programs. The men are off to a 10-1 start with seven straight wins. Included in that total are victories over Utah, Texas A&M and Georgetown. The 76-62 win over the Utes was at Dickies Arena, and it was great to see many of you there. Dickies Arena is a tremendous partner of TCU, and we enjoy playing a game every year in that world-class venue.

Our women most recently posted an 87-75 victory over No. 18 Texas A&M. Lauren Heard had 33 points, while Aja Holmes scored a career-high 22 to lead us to the win. They return to action next Wednesday, December 29, at home versus Davidson at 6:30 p.m.

MEET RAY WALLS
With the importance of Name, Image and Likeness, we repurposed an open position in our department to focus on NIL in support of our student-athletes. It also allowed us to welcome back a familiar face to serve in this role. Ray Walls is our new Associate Athletics Director for Student-Athlete Experience and Brand Management. After concluding a five-year NFL playing career, Ray came to TCU as a graduate assistant in our Athletics Academics Services Office. He was then promoted to full-time. Most recently, he was Senior Associate Athletics Director for Academic Services at North Texas. Ray is on our TCU Athletics Executive Team as well as being our main liaison in the new Scaled to Succeed partnership with TCU's Neeley School of Business. Please join me in welcoming Ray back home to TCU and in his new role of service to our 500-plus student-athletes!
HOLIDAY END OF YEAR GIVING
This holiday season, "Give the Gift of Frog Club!" You have the opportunity to make a membership gift in someone's name, and they will receive a Custom Donation Card for the holidays. MILESTONE WATCH
Congratulations to Head Men's Basketball Coach Jamie Dixon on 100 wins as a Horned Frog! The milestone was reached with a 73-64 victory over Pepperdine at the SoCal Challenge in San Juan Capistrano, Calif. With our strong alumni base in California as well as being home to a large number of current students, it was great to see such a strong contingent of TCU fans in purple supporting our team at the tournament.
Out of 22 head coaches in our men's basketball history, Jamie is the third-fastest to reach the 100-win mark.
Coach Dixon also received a tremendous honor when he was named USA Basketball's Developmental Coach of the Year after leading USA to a 7-0 record and gold medal at the 2021 FIBA World Cup. Mike Miles, the current Big 12 Player of the Week, joined him with Team USA. Congrats, Jamie!
#PROFROGS
It was great to see soccer's Jenna Winebrenner become our latest professional draft pick as she was the 41st overall selection in the NWSL Draft by the KC Current. Jenna was first-team All-Big 12 and All-Midwest Region as she started all 24 games at defender and helped us post a team record 13 shutouts this season.
Former men's tennis student-athlete Facundo Lugones was named the ATP Pro Coach of the Year. Facundo coaches Cameron Norrie, who was his TCU teammate for one season and is now the No. 12 player in the world. National coaching honors are commonplace for our men's tennis program. Head Coach David Roditi has won ITA Coach of the Year honors with Devin Bowen being a recipient of ITA Assistant Coach of the Year accolades.
BEST IN THE NATION
Andrew Siegel is our Sports Field Manager and does a phenomenal job with our athletics facilities. We were thrilled to see Andrew and his crew recognized by the Sports Turf Managers Association for their efforts, and it was not just for one field. Both Amon G. Carter Stadium and Garvey-Rosenthal Soccer Stadium were honored! We are truly fortunate to have someone like Andrew with us. Between our winter storm and then a very cool and wet spring, Andrew and his team faced some unique challenges but rose to the occasion as they always do.
On behalf of the student-athletes, coaches and staff who benefit from your work, we thank you Andrew!
REPPIN' TCU
Extending from our student-athletes to coaches and staff, we have some great leaders across our department. I am very proud of football's Max Duggan being chosen as one of two Big 12 student-athletes on the NCAA Division I Football Oversight Committee Student-Athlete Connection Group. Max will represent the interests of Big 12 football players and college football as a whole. He is a marketing major in our Neeley School of Business and was Second-Team All-Academic Big 12 this season.
While Max is quite the familiar name, Cam Fenton is someone to make sure you get to know. As some of our Frog Club members will attest, Cam is a rising star. Cam is our Assistant Athletics Director for Development – Annual Giving. He was selected to participate in the Learfield EDGE Academy, designed to foster minority growth and development in the collegiate multimedia, technology systems and sponsorship sector. He was also nominated as an Emerging Leader in Philanthropy by the Association of Fundraising Professionals – Fort Worth Chapter. Cam came to TCU four years ago in a part-time group sales position. With great pride, I have seen Cam grow as a young professional and ascend in our department to his current position. He has an incredibly bright future in collegiate athletics!
Colleagues around the country also recognize how fortunate we are to have a talented team of administrators. We are represented by Senior Associate Athletics Director/Senior Woman Administrator Kim Johnson on the NCAA Division I Competition Oversight Committee, while Associate Vice Chancellor and Associate Athletics Director for Development and Frog Club Michael Levy was appointed to the NCAA Division I Men's Golf Committee.
HALL OF FAME TIME

Aracely DeRose is a learning specialist in our Athletics Academics Services Office. As we prepared to decorate the Schollmaier Arena front lobby, Stuart Family Courtside Club and Legends Club & Suites, Aracely defined holiday season selflessness. Aracely thought she was donating just a couple hours on a Sunday afternoon to assist in the choosing of trees, different décor for those trees and the loading and unloading that comes with it. Instead, she enthusiastically spent seven hours on the project, which included a trip to Arlington, to ensure we had everything just right for our student-athletes, department and all of you who visit our facilities. Thank you, Aracely, for being such a great teammate in bringing holiday spirit to everyone! This Fist Bump is for you!
DID YOU KNOW?
With our spring sports seasons about to commence, we have a couple fun notes to share.
Led by Head Coach and Block T Association Hall of Famer David Roditi, TCU is the only men's tennis program in the nation to finish with a Top 10 ranking in each of the last seven seasons.
On the links, under Bill Montigel, we are the lone men's golf program in the country to make each of the last 31 NCAA postseasons with the same head coach. Speaking of Coach Montigel, congratulations to him on becoming a grandfather for the second time. His daughter Kelli, who was a women's golf student-athlete at TCU, just gave birth to her second son, Thomas Brooks Howells. If that first name is familiar, it is because he is named after his uncle, Thomas Montigel, who is our Assistant Athletics Director for Men's Basketball Operations.
I'D LOVE TO HEAR FROM YOU
Whether it's through email (AthleticsDirector@tcu.edu), Twitter (@JDonati_TCU) or Instagram (JDonati_TCU), please feel free to always reach out if we can be of assistance. Thank you for your continued support of TCU Athletics! We wish you and yours a very happy and safe holiday season! See you in 2022!
