Demercado headlines first-team selections

IRVING, Texas -- Nineteen TCU football players have received Academic All-Big 12 recognition.

Graduate student Emari Demercado, TCU's third-leading rusher with 292 yards, is First-Team Academic All-Big 12. Antonio Ortiz, a semifinalist for the Patrick Mannelly Award as the nation's best senior snapper, is First-Team Academic All-Big 12 for the third consecutive year.

Taye Barber, second on TCU with 28 receptions, is Academic All-Big 12 for the second time. His 120 career catches top all current Horned Frogs. Quarterback Max Duggan, offensive guard John Lanz and safety Deshawn McCuin are Second-Team Academic All-Big 12 for the second straight year, while leading rusher Zach Evans is also Second-Team Academic All-Big 12 after being on the Academic All-Big 12 Rookie Team last season.
