Duggan and Johnson have career days
Duggan threw for a career-high 346 yards and four touchdowns, while Johnston had personal-best totals of seven receptions, 185 yards and three touchdowns. The 185 yards receiving were the most by a Horned Frog since Taj Williams had 210 against Oklahoma in 2016.
Duggan went over 5,000 career yards passing and is now at 5,221. He moved past Steve Stamp (5,123, 1978-81) into sixth place on TCU's all-time list. Duggan completed 20-of-30 attempts with no interceptions.
After the Sooners scored on their opening two possessions for a 14-0 lead, TCU got on the board with a 53-yard touchdown pass from Duggan to Kendre Miller. Miller caught the short toss and then outraced the Sooners defense down the TCU sideline and into the end zone for his first career receiving score.
TCU closed within 17-14 with 4:27 left in the second quarter on a 20-yard touchdown pass from Duggan to Johnston. It capped a 14-play, 78-yard drive covering 6:38 on the clock.
After trailing 24-14 at the half, TCU was still within 10 points when Duggan connected with Johnston on a 75-yard strike to make it a 31-21 game with 11:01 left in the third quarter. Johnston posted his third career 100-yard receiving game.
TCU continued to battle back as a 22-yard Griffin Kell field goal kept it a two-score game at 38-24 with 4:38 remaining in the third quarter. Johnson's spectacular grab on a 25-yard pass from Duggan provided TCU's final points of the game, cutting the deficit to 45-31 with 11:16 left.
Ochaun Mathis had two sacks for TCU, the fifth multi-sack of his career. His 14 1/2 sacks top all current Horned Frogs.
